Bill Grundler is currently a Captain with the CALFIRE/Pismo Beach Fire Department and is stationed at Pismo Beach's Shell Beach Station, Station 63. He has worked at the Avila Beach Fire station and began his career at the Pismo Beach Fire Station 64.
Bill was in charge of the lifeguard program at Pismo Beach. He hired, scheduled, trained and physically trained the guards to all become very physical specimens. He has competed in many lifeguard competitions and was one of the best "beach flag" competitors in California.
His love for competition has been derived from years of athletic sport activity. He started wrestling and swimming competitively at age 5. While he was a youngster, he also played soccer, and ran track.
His main sport was wrestling and he had a very successful career including many freestyle age-group titles, high school runner-up and state champion, traveled to Japan on a national exchange team, and wrestled the Div I NCAA Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo wrestling team where he was the California College State Champion and ranked as high as 10th in the nation.
Before becoming a firefighter, he was a high school teacher and taught Biology and Medical Careers. He also was a wrestling and swimming coach at the high school level, helping many young athletes to get to the state championships.
Bill was introduced to Crossfit back in 2001 by one of the original crossfitters up in Santa Cruz. He loved some of the "Crazy" workouts and would add those to his normal 2 hour lifting sessions. It wasn't until May of 2007 that he truly realized what fully accepting Crossfit would do for his own personal athleticism. He started to use Crossfit to help train his firefighters. They all enjoyed and saw the benefits. He realized that this is what every firefighter needs.
Crossfit-Inferno was started in March of 2008 and Bill received his Level 1 Certificate in May and his Level 2 Certificate in November of the same year. Training public safety personnel and anyone else who wants to be better at what they do, has become his true calling. He is ready to help you achieve your fitness goals.
